The 3:10 Giving Challenge
The 3:10 Giving Challenge is based on Malachi 3:10, where God told His people, “Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food in My Temple. If you do,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, “I will open the windows of heaven for you. I will pour out a blessing so great you won’t have enough room to take it in! Try it! Put Me to the test!”
The “storehouse” was located in the temple, the place that was the cornerstone of worship for God’s people at the time. The command from God was simple—“Bring the tithe.” The word tithe simply means “tenth,” and it represented one-tenth of a person’s income that was to be given as an act of worship and brought to the temple. The challenge comes at the end of the verse when God dared His people to “Try it! Put me to the test!” This is an unprecedented test—a test for God, and a test from God who dares us to test Him.
Our goal at Journey Church is to be a church filled with people who are passing the test and bringing the tithe! It is one of the powerful ways that we grow in maturity—trusting God with our stuff and giving Him His portion!
