Welcome to journey Church small groups!

Small Group involvement is one of our main strategies to connect with others, grow in our maturity and knowledge, and on a much smaller scale from Sundays become a church where people belong. While some of the groups presented are for more seasoned Christ-followers, most are designed for both old and new to faith, and also to those who are exploring faith.

People have asked, “What exactly is a small group?” Simply put, it’s a small group of people (anywhere from 5-20 people) who connect every week (based on a variety of convenience factors) as a part of Journey Church. Each group is designed to go for a round of 8-10 weeks (with a few going 12 weeks), with breaks designed to correspond to holidays or natural breaks. As a note, while a group is meeting, it is understandable and natural when group members have to miss a week for another obligation, but the idea is to be as consistent as possible to grow relationally and spiritually. At the end of a group’s run, members are welcomed to return to their group in the next round or find another one.

If you consider Journey your church home, we strongly encourage you to find a group suitable for you and get connected this round. This new round of groups begins the week of February 17-23 (with a few noted exceptions). See below a list of the different groups with times, locations, and brief descriptions. Fill in the form below to sign up for a particular group.

No other Gospel gives such extensive explanation to Jesus' ministry as the Gospel of John. The first three Gospels describe events, but the fourth Gospel describes the significance behind those events. Through miracles, parables, and relationships, Jesus shows how He is the fulfillment of God's promises of old. He is the Word, the Light, the Lamb—the eternal Son of God. Let the humanity of Christ move you as He feels your joys and pains, and let the deity of Christ awaken you to the life He has planned!

This group will be a conversation based on the book Be Alive by Warren Weirsbe. Chapters are short and easily readable, with study questions that will be discussed each week.

Celebration of Discipline

  • led by chris kujawa

For more info, email ckujawa@nhkujawas.com

  • Ongoing: Thursdays at February 20 at 7:00PM

  • Location: Church - Adult Classroom

While we all wish that great physical fitness comes naturally without regard to what we do, it doesn’t. As anyone that’s been in great physical shape before can tell you, it takes work. It takes sacrifice. It takes DISCIPLINE. In the same way, we can’t sit back an expect our spiritual lives to be strong on their own. It’s no accident that Paul frequently uses sports motifs to describe how he approaches his spiritual health.

Just like with our physical condition, peak spiritual health requires discipline.  Join me as we study Richard Foster’s best-selling Celebration of Discipline: The Path to Spiritual Growth and discover (or re-discover) sever practical discipline that we can build into our lives that help us take our relationship with God and His family (the church) to a whole new level.

YOUNG ADULT GROUP: Roots Ministries

  • Led by STEPHANIE NEAL

Description: Roots is a group for young adults. This ministry is meant to help you develop relationships and grow your faith. If you are 18-30 years old, Roots is for you - you need to come check us out on a Saturday night, and bring a friend!

The Bible tells us to let your roots grow down into Him, and let your lives be built on Him (Colossians 2:7).  So our aim is to help every young adult do just that - grow deeper - grow roots. We'll hang out together and grow deeper as we learn how live for God in the normal day-to-day.  We'll regularly talk about the events of the day and what the Bible has to say about those things.

And we'll grow deeper - in friendships. You'll connect with good friends who are going through some of the same challenges that you are.  This group is designed to provide ongoing opportunities to build some great relationships.

David: Becoming a Person After God's Heart

  • Led by Rob & Megan Lyons

    • For more info, email: roblyons@fireside.org

      • Start Date: Saturday, February 20 at 6:00PM

      • Location: Journey Church, adult Living Room (adjacent to the cafe)

Description: David was a man after God's own heart… What does that mean to be someone "after God's own heart?" David - Old Testament shepherd, king, and psalmist - offers an answer in the shape of his own life.

In many ways he was a most extraordinary man: intelligent, handsome, abundantly gifted as a poet, musician, warrior, and administrator. Yet in other ways he was a most ordinary man, often gripped by destructive passion, rocked by family chaos and personal tragedy, and motivated by political expediency. How did David become the national hero of God's chosen people? Why is he the one character in the Bible described as "a man after God's own heart?" Using Pastor Chuck Swindoll’s book David - A Man of Passion, we will explore the many facets of David, from his teenage years and dysfunctional family life to his overwhelming passion for God.

David's life offers hope to all of us. It shows that God can do extraordinary things through ordinary men and women. And David offers an insightful perspective on what it means to be truly spiritual, to become like David, men and women after God's own heart.
