| SUNDAY, OCTOBER 28, 2007 - GRANDER VISION LIVING |
|
Comfort is a great word when it comes to hotels and bedrooms and pillows and cars, but it is not a good word when it comes to churches. Churches that are worried about comfort are seldom worried about anything or anyone else, and it is the death-knell of a church. I began the message today by reviewing our history - in 3 years we've seen around 180 people become Christians in our weekly services at The Journey - which is a great number. But the job is not done. We are in real danger of getting comfortable with our numbers and just putting it on cruise control, not really doing anything challenging and just living for the moment. I don't think that is the way we will go, but the message series JUST WALK ACROSS THE ROOM was done so that we would not settle for an "us 4 need no more" kind of attitude. We desperately need to reach out into our world that desperately needs Jesus Christ! And today was all about living life for something bigger - grander - taking our cue from Jesus inviting the firshermen (Peter, James, and John) in Luke 5 to "Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men." Jesus invited them to fish for 6 footers, not just the 16 inchers, and the call is still out to us today. I felt today's service was a little lethargic - I know room temperature plays some with that, but also the Red Sox keeping many people up until 1am didn't help. But I do think today was a good day, and I pray that we are stirred to step out and see that people are the priority and that we will see the potential that people have. While big changes begin next week with our kids department, this week was a good week and we had 160 with many visitors. Thank you, God, for another good day at The Journey.
