SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 9,2007 - "GET UNDER IT"
Well, it was a very good day here at The Journey. For the first time, things sort of felt "normal" as it is now officially the fall season. Normal isn't just about numbers (although it was good to be back to normal - we had 170). But we also had two people (maybe three) that invited Jesus Christ into their lives for the first time, one of whom has been coming to The Journey for awhile. I am excited to some day share more about this.

I began speaking last week about Authority Issues, a hard-hitting but necessary look at how we need to come under the authorities that God has placed into our lives. It is perhaps the hardest hitting series I have ever spoken on, as it seems to be a subject that is affecting everyone. Submission is not a "fun" issue, but the reason I decided to move in this direction with the preaching is because if we at The Journey will truly start submitting to one another and to those leaders around us, God will bless us and mature us like never before. There are few things more spiritually stifling than a group of Christians who don't submit.

The gist of the message series is this - Until you get under what God has put over you, you will never be/live/triumph over what God wants to put under you. I pray that God will continue to use this word to change His church - from bottom to top, side to side, from the inside out - that He will change every one of us to live under His authority  - the authority of His Word, of the leaders He places over us, and the authority of other believers as we mutually submit to each other. It is a word of grace that will help us move forward in our spiritual lives if we will allow it to penetrate our hearts.

This was a great day at The Journey - we had many visitors, as well as return visitors, which makes me excited about what God is doing. Lord, may You have Your way in this place more and more as we live out your word in our lives, our flesh, our minds, and our spirits.

The message is right on. We must understand that the church is not the United States. Most citizens in the US feel the entitlement of being able to do or not do whatever they want. At times we call it our right to purse happiness. The church is different! We have no entitlements; everything we have is a gift from God. And our "calling" is not to increase our happiness but to honor God by obeying his concepts. The church is more of a military or family model than what we are told by the politicians. There are leaders, there are procedures and there are standards. They are in place to protect us, to guide us and to ultimately bring us to victory and success. I stand with Pastor Rob in submitting to the word of God. Not just the promises of blessings and a heavenly, pain free, eternity but also the parts of the Bible that convict, challenge and call me to higher ground. The parts that require me to do the things I frankly don’t want to do. But oh the true and deep blessing, the power that comes from God when we are willing to be under the authority structures He has established! Those blessings bring real power to overcome disappointments, heartaches, addictions and temporary failures Let's all be willing to sacrifice our "self" for the unity and preservation of the very thing Christ came to establish.
