The Beatitudes

Matthew 5

The Beatitudes
1Now when he saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, 2and he began to teach them saying:
3"Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
 4Blessed are those who mourn,
      for they will be comforted.
 5Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.
6Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
      for they will be filled.
 7Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
8Blessed are the pure in heart,
      for they will see God.
 9Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called sons of God.
10Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11"Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. 12Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Same goes for the Beatitudes...this was an early reading from October 5...the Beatitudes come from Jesus' Sermon on the Mount.

I love the beatitudes, They aren't nessicarily the first time Jesus teaches, but they really show the core of the heart of Jesus, the disheartened, those in morning, the meek, those who hunger for righeoutness.
If we could learn one thing of how to live though the beatitudes I think it would be discovering the heart of Jesus, He reaches out to those who want to reach out to him. (Those who want to be close to jesus, to learn from Jesus, to model Jesus can have all of that are offered all of that if we hunger for it, and thirst for it and strive for it.) Its as much of a gift as salvation its self.)( And if we are critisized for following the path of richeneous, be joyful because you know it is right.)

Notice how Jesus never says,
"Blessed are the wealthy...
Blessed are those with high IQs...
Blessed are those with mini-mansions...
Blessed are those who are famous...
Blessed are those who look perfect..."

He wants all of us who are willing to accept our own humility, and those of us who admit to having no control, and those of us willing to accept our own weaknesses. He wants those of us willing to accept the glory and love of Him...and seek Him in our walk every day...He doesn't want us to get to the point of relying more on ourselves than on Him.

When Jesus called the twelve disciples he didn't call priests or holy men or educated scholars...he called fishermen, tax collectors, a betrayer...He knew the failings and troubles of all of those men, yet still called them to be His disciples. He calls us in spite of ourselves and wants us to accept what He has already sacrificed.

yeah, good thought about he wanting us to accpet our own hmility, and having to admit to having no control.

I also find it intresting you mentioned tax collectors among jesus twelve disciples one of them being a tax collector Matthew and the author of this book we and how God uses our unique abilities.
Matthews Gospel is though to have been the most concise and accurate account of Jesus teachings. And his writting is very clear and to the point.

Tax collectors possed a skill commonly used for there profession. And typically they used a from of short hand and could write word for word what a speaker was saying.

Pastor says commonly God is in the resume building business. I think this is a great biblical example of that phrase Pastor uses so often.

Just thought that might be of intrest, at least it is to me.
